Dutch Gable

A perfect example of a Dutch Gable house...this architectural style was prominent in the early days (17th century) of the Cape Colony, and the name derives from the fact that the initial settlers of the Cape were primarily Dutch. The style has roots in mediaeval Holland, Germany, France and Indonesia.

Pretty Houses in Bokaap

This area of Cape Town is stunning, one of the oldest parts of the City. The house are brightly painted & the streets narrow, many being cobbled. This is predominantly a Muslim community & there are some amazing places to buy tasty food...visit the Cape Town Tourism website for more info

Another perfect mid winter day in Cape Town. We went walking on the Contour Path, the road that runs beneath Table Mountain. Fab views over the City, Lions Head & Signal Head.

A beautiful view

This was taken today on the road from Hout Bay. In front is Lions Head & to the right, the side of Table Mountain called the 12 Apostles mountain range, so called because of the 12 jutting out rock faces that overlook Camps Bay. Today was one of those perfect winter days ~ we get so many of them.

Lunch

Delish lunch at Willoughby & Co today in the Waterfront. For me it's the best sushi in town. Unchallenged. Undisputed. This pic: new style yellowtail sashimi with a garlic & chilli sauce....say no more.

My City

I had fun taking pics along my drive from the Waterfront to home today: Somerset Road & Buitengracht Street. Some fab buildings in town, great colours too, enhanced, as always, by Instagram.

A letter!

This is a rare thing...an actual handwritten letter, received today by a gent in Johannesburg who used to watch me dance years ago in PACT Ballet. He loves updating me about interesting ballet happenings up north...it's fabulous to receive & read. I think I need to spend more time writing, on pretty paper. It's almost a forgotten thing isn't it?

Knitting fun

I decided that in autumn/winter I want to knit a scarf every 2 weeks & give it someone I meet. This creation, lovingly made by moi, went to a woman on night duty at the Waterfront ...she was so happy to get it...it meant so much to be able to do that small thing. No biggie, but I know made a difference *

The Dogs Bollocks

Ok, this has to be the biggest burger in Cape Town. Not sure about the best as there are others competing for that title like Loading Bay & Hudsons ...be warned though, this is a messy ride: oozing buns, no cutlery & I have to say this, the worst wobbly mesh tables of yesteryear...so that vino spills easily &... the rest is obvious. But great food.
