Tashas in Hyde Park

Cecile took me to this fab restaurant in Hyde Park, one of Joburg's most expensive & stylish malls, showing off its pedigree with high end stores like Thomas Pink, Burberry, Crabtree & Evelyn & more.....it's tres chic & we had tea at Tashas, a spot of Earl Gry & macaroons. I loved the hanging teacups, teapots & saucers above the kitchen area, made of paper, delicately hanging down in soft light...oh and the pretty saucers & silver teapots. Happiness.

70 Juta Street, Braamfontein

70 Juta in Braamfontein was my high point this weekend in Jozi. The colourful building houses amazing small stores including Lomography, a gallery, Post, & Stad Store (@StadStore). The latter has lovely wares & excellent quality leather goods, from totes to iPad sleeves & all purpose handbags such as what I scooped up ( see pic). 70 Juta has a quirky vibe..loved bumping into Carl Wessel (@CarlWessel) from Deluxe Cape Town...he sells his coffee brand inside the Levi's Commuter Clubhouse. Very cool!

South African English~ Eish!

eish (aysh) – Used to express surprise, wonder, frustration or outrage: "Eish! That cut was eina!"
South Africans speak English, but that doesn't mean you'll always understand us. Our robots are nothing like R2D2, just now doesn't mean immediately, and babbelas is not a shampoo. South African English has a flavour all its own, borrowing freely from Afrikaans, which is similar to Dutch and Flemish, as well as from the country's many African languages. Some words come from colonial-era Malay and Portuguese immigrants.

Deluxe in Joburg

There stands Carl Wessel, outside Deluxe in Jo'burg. Sad today I couldn't show off his coffee today as there was no water in Juta Street. Pity. As a result I spent more time shopping, at Stad & at the Lomography store. Scored some fab items...more about those later.

At the Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein this morning. Eggs Benedict was so-so..I think the Cape Town Neighbourgoods Market is way better though...way more variety & Luke Dale -Roberts's Eggs Benedict upstages totally upstages what I had today. In this pic, Matthew Weyers, moi, Bruce Weyers. If you need an Executive Coach or Organisational Development Specialist, he's your go-to guy ( find him on Linked In) *

I'm in Joburg for a few days...I am opening Kat and the Kings to the media tomorrow & came up 2 days ahead to see one of my oldest & most fab friends, Cecile Weyers...hated the Mango flight after getting crushed kneecaps in the sardine tin seats but LOVED the Gautrain. Tres EU.

David Kramer, he with the pork pie hat & veldskoen fame. Coffee today at Cassis Paris (Gardens Centre); talking about Kat and the Kings, the hit show he created with the late Taliep Petersen & which he now directs. I'll be in Johannesburg this weekend for the Press night for Kat, on Sunday at Montecasino. Fun in the sun, compared to this drippy weather we're experiencing at this moment in Cape Town. Winter, begone!
