Pizza, the underground way, in Cape Town

It's new, it's quirky, it's real Italian pizza in the heart of the Mother City! Introducing Ferdinandos - 'Somewhere on the Atlantic Seaboard' - underground feasting at its best. Pizza served from an authentic pizza oven by 'long plait' Diego from Italy, in his own kitchen, & just like Mama made it. Kimon - Diego's effervescent partner & waitress-come Maitre D- explained that she & Diego have been operating from their home (in one of Cape Town's quaintest suburbs btw) for the past nine months, after a lengthy stay overseas. Diego makes his own dough & hand opens his pizzas there & then...nothing is pre made, everything is fresh. You can sit at the counter in la cuccina & watch him at work, or outside in the courtyard, or in the lounge. I found out about Ferdinandos via Instagram believe it or nay & took my guys along for supper. The handmade menu offers many irresistible options: the Diavola, Hindi, Campo, Grizzly & my choice, the Kimonster. Totally loved the aioli dip that was brought to the table for us to dip those crunchy, bubbly crusts into...I had to stop myself from spooning the entire bowl into my mouth! The pizza was good but the experience was better...it's unique & fabulous. People From Afar, this is for your list of must-do's....email Ferdinandospizza@gmail.com for more info. Cash only & take your own drinks. Oh and by the way, Ferdinando is their dog * BON APPETITO!
