Dancers...backstage and onstage, from sidetage...

I've always loved images of ballet dancers taken close up backstage - capturing their pensive moments before they perform; their expressions as they watch what's going on onstage and the way the light plays on faces, tulle, eyelashes, dance shoes is just beautiful...here are a few photographs I shot from sidestage last night during Cape Dance Company's final dress rehearsal at Artscape Theatre here in Cape Town. Their Cadence season opens tonight...

Everything is beautiful at the ballet....

Coffee, gourmet sarmies, pizza, craft beer, vino...

Yourstruly (yes, one word by all accounts and cross checking) have opened another cool spot (their other place is on 175 Long Street) on 73 Kloof Street, Cape Town right next to Once, a fab new 'all star' hotel (I love their line: 'Book at Once').
Serving good coffee by Deluxe, gourmet sandwiches, amaze pizzas, vino and craft beer, Yourstruly is yet another hip addition to a road that is buzzing with great venues showcasing everything from art to food to clothing & all that's in between: the list groweth and the quality of the offerings is top end - my kinda places: stylish without being fussy and uncomfortably posh. Like Bree Street down the drag, Kloof's star is rising and adding prime experiential value to this Mother City we all heart so much...kudos to Daniel and his team.

Fab outdoor section..bring on those hot summer nights...

Barista Terence...

Hipsters...

I was there with this guy. Wheatgrass Hair Man. Of bluecollarwhitecollar fame.. (another uber fab store on Kloof)...

Good coffee, by Deluxe...

A bit of a Paris reminder for me- cheese & tomato baguette...

Great beer...

See you on Kloof...

Table Mountain, a global wonder...

What a weekend of perfect weather...here are a few pics taken from the contour road - I tried to capture the shifting light as the dusk approached...
People from Near and Afar, meet Table Mountain, the City Bowl and Signal Hill...come visit...

Table Mountain, named a  New 7 Wonder of Nature in 2011...

Devil's Peak

Naughty blue bugs..

Looking down at one end of the harbour...

And then at the other...the V&A Waterfront, one of the best sea front malls in the world...

Robben Island in the distance, where Mandela spent far too many years..

From the top of Signal Hill, looking through the trees...

That ice cream van has been selling cones ever since I can remember...rum & raisin - the only time I ever eat it...

Me with Lion's Head in the backgound...

Sushi in a superb setting, in captivating Cape Town...

On a smoking hot summer's day, with the barometer pushing 34 degrees in the shade, here's a fabulous lunch or dinner option: sushi on the upper deck at Harbour House at the V&A Waterfront, chased by a chilled glass of vino, or a mojito or a cold beer in a frosted glass. Sounds good right? That's because it is - and excellent at that! Great cuisine made even better by the stellar views that surround the deck...Signal Hill on the one side, merging into the Waterfront hustle and bustle and then into the Quay 4 harbour with Table Bay in the distance. What could be better? Not much I tell you, People from Near and Afar...not much....

Proteas in vases all around the deck..it's my fave flower..a South African national treasure...

Lunch is served...Oscar is certainly having a good weekend of top end food...

My personal fave, the new style sashimi...it's actually better than the dish of the same name at Willoughbys...yes, I said it...

The harbour lies yonder...

Harbour House Waterfront is next to Cape Union Mart / www.harbourhouse.co.za @harbourhousevna
