A very South African show...'Kalahari Karoo Blues'

In this fascinating production, South African musician, song writer & director David Kramer, a living legend, brings together musicians from areas such as the Karoo, the Hardeveld & the country Botswana...people who plays their unusual handmade instruments, in a unique way. Their music comes from a handmade violin (fenjoro), a coffee tin, a guitar that is played with a teaspoon....it's remarkable - a show with great integrity that reaches into the soul. These gentle folk were once accused by White people of playing the devil's music, if you can believe that. South Africa back then with its poisonous legalised belief system. I'm so glad it's behind us. Lest we forget....

Champ opening night

The opening of Champ went down fabulously well last night. It's a very funny play, written by Louis Viljoen & directed by Greg Karvellas, about 3 actors having to work a somewhat demeaning entertainment gig dressed as oversized teddy bears, at a shopping mall. Excellent cast- a 5 hander- with Nicholas Pauling, Darron Araujo, Mark Elderkin, Adama Neill & Kerstin Francis. Nicknamed by those who have seen the play as the 'swearbears' for their potty mouths, this is an excellent piece of theatre, with a super fine cast. Go see it at the Artscape Arena until 20/10.

Champ

My next show, part of the Artscape Spring Drama Season, is Champ- written by Louis Viljoen. Such a great cast: Nick Pauling, Darren Araujo, Mark Elderkin, Adam Neill, Kerstin Francis. Greg Karvellas directs. It's hilarious, with rather bad language so don't bring your kids. @ArtscapeTheatre
