Harbour House's new menu created by chef Eric Bulpitt

Kalk Bay in Cape Town, the picture perfect setting for one of Cape Town's leading seafood restaurants, Harbour House (there is one in Kalk Bay & another in the Waterfont on Quay 5). On the most stunning winter day this past Monday, I went to the Kalk Bay venue to a tasting of visiting chef Eric Bulpitt's outstanding new menu additions that will also be available on the winter special menus from today, 1 August 2013. Let me tell you, I was in foodie heaven. I know Eric doesn't like fanfare but the man is a culinary genius & I can't wait for you, People from Near & Afar, to experience what he has done. Book a table & have a delicious time....Harbour House awaits...

Kalk Bay...the view from the hill...
Inside Harbour House Kalk Bay; book your table with a view...
For starters, duck breast with aubergine purée, pickled beet & shimeji mushrooms...
Prime beef rib eye with soft truffled polenta (I want to eat that every day!), caramelised baby onions & sauce bordelaise ...
Eaton Mess dessert..what might you ask is that? Coconut meringues, creme chantilly, berry compote & coconut & vanilla sorbet...
And voila, Eric Bulpitt. Take a bow Monsieur.
Harbour House V&A & Kalk Bay are part of the Harbour House Group. The Harbour House restaurants trade 7 days a week for lunch & dinner. For more info about the other restauants in the group & the various winter specials on offer, visit www.harbourhouse.co.za. See you at the seaside...

A very South African show...'Kalahari Karoo Blues'

In this fascinating production, South African musician, song writer & director David Kramer, a living legend, brings together musicians from areas such as the Karoo, the Hardeveld & the country Botswana...people who plays their unusual handmade instruments, in a unique way. Their music comes from a handmade violin (fenjoro), a coffee tin, a guitar that is played with a teaspoon....it's remarkable - a show with great integrity that reaches into the soul. These gentle folk were once accused by White people of playing the devil's music, if you can believe that. South Africa back then with its poisonous legalised belief system. I'm so glad it's behind us. Lest we forget....

A guitar made from a petrol tin...

One of David Kramer's guitars, with some beautiful engravings on the wooden surface....

A slide projection- one of the backdrops...

Above: a handmade wooden violin, the fenjoro...

Above: the Baxter Theatre, where the show is presented. People from Afar, come along...this is a wonderful showcase of South African culture that will be an amazing experience I can promise you...

Zanne Stapelberg & Kathleen Tagg

What a beautiful performance last night by opera Diva Zanne Stapelberg & pianist Kathleen Tagg, at the Fugard Theatre. It was the launch of their first CD. The show is called Soul of Fire, playing for 2 nights only. Between them, these 2 artistes bring tremendous depth, passion & joy to their performance. Zanne sings divine Spanish songs with great flair & in bold technicolor! The onstage ensemble led by Kathleen is superb: bass player Mr. Lazar, violinist Piet de Beer & percussionist Joseph Avengel with a great hat! They deliver exquisite music that includes Tango & more...World music from Cuba & Argentina, gorgeous..... I'd say go see it but it's sold out tonight, sorrynfor you! follow the two via @ZanneStapelberg @KathleenTagg to keep up with their upcoming gigs & go buy the CD!

David Kramer

Singer, songwriter, director, creative...David Kramer...famous also for his pork pie hats & red *veldskoen shoes. I took this as he was being interviewed about his upcoming new show, Kalahari Karoo Blues, at the Baxter Theatre next month.

* Veldskoen (pronounced "FELL-skoons") are Southern African walking shoes made from veg tanned leather or soft rawhide uppers attached to a leather footbed and rubber sole without tacks or nails. The name comes from Afrikaans vel ("skin") (later assimilated to veld ("field")) and skoen ("shoe"),n and their design is believed to be based on the traditional Khoisan footwear observed by the first Dutch settlers in South Africa. The footwear was later enculturated into the Afrikaans psyche when the velskoen was used as the footwear of the Great Trek. Easy to make, lightweight and extremely tough wearing the vellie could withstand the harsh conditions of the great migration north.

Marc Lottering, top SA comedian

I'm very fortunate to have some of South Africa's top comedians as clients...Marc Lottering is one of them. He is hilarious, which is crucial I expect - haha! He opened his new season of his hit show I Don't Work on Sundays, at the Baxter Theatre last night...the audience loved it. Never mind he was wearing a deadly satin suit in a magnificent shade of grey, I mean green :) he does touch on 50 Shades of Grey in the show btw. Follow him @MarcLottering & if in Cape Town, make a turn for a night of Funny, at the Baxter, nightly until 5 January 2013.
