Athol Fugard, Playwright

Athol Fugard is South Africa's greatest living playwright. This was taken 2 days ago in his apartment in Sea Point, Cape Town, after an in depth interview with Rapport newspaper, as part of their Leermeester series. Mr. Fugard is currently directing his new play which he co- wrote in Afrikaans with academic Riana Steyn. It's called 'Die Laaste Karretjiegraf' & it's playing at the Fugard Theatre, named after him, until 23 February. Athol Fugard, South African Playwright

I'm doing the publicity for a new Afrikaans play by Athol Fugard called Die Laaste Karretjiegraf. Google Fugard, he is world famous & was once on the cover of Time magazine. He has lived in the USA for years & many great actors have performed in his plays- he wrote the Oscar winning film Tsotsi & last year won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Tony's. In the pic below he is being interviewed by Hannes van Wyk (who is wearing bluecollarwhitecollar by the way) for the TV show Bravo, on Kyknet. Judge Dredd actress in Cape Town

Olivia Thirlby who played Judge Dredd's sidekick in the recent Dredd remake (she was also the best friend to Juno in the movie of the same name), is in Cape Town quite often....she always pops in to say hi to Paul (left) at his bluecollarwhitecollar pop up stand at the Old Biscuit Mill. She has given ours on Luke (right) a lot of great advice re how to proceed with his acting studies.

Adelaide Tambo

This pic was taken in Johannesburg in about 2004, with the late Adelaide Tambo, wife to the late Oliver Tambo, the great ANC leader who once ran a legal firm with Nelson Mandela. I was having tea with her at her home in Houghton. At the time she was the Honorary Patron of Cape Town City Ballet where I was Marketing Director, and I was in touch with her a lot when it came to arranging her tickets to ballet performances at Artscape. When in Cape Town, Adelaide stayed in Sea Point, as did I. She used to call me one of her 'daughters' and sometimes would call me to ask me to get her some cheesecake from the New York Bagels....they do a smashing one there by the way.

Singer, songwriter, director, creative...David Kramer...famous also for his pork pie hats & red *veldskoen shoes. I took this as he was being interviewed about his upcoming new show, Kalahari Karoo Blues, at the Baxter Theatre next month.

* Veldskoen (pronounced "FELL-skoons") are Southern African walking shoes made from veg tanned leather or soft rawhide uppers attached to a leather footbed and rubber sole without tacks or nails. The name comes from Afrikaans vel ("skin") (later assimilated to veld ("field")) and skoen ("shoe"),n and their design is believed to be based on the traditional Khoisan footwear observed by the first Dutch settlers in South Africa. The footwear was later enculturated into the Afrikaans psyche when the velskoen was used as the footwear of the Great Trek. Easy to make, lightweight and extremely tough wearing the vellie could withstand the harsh conditions of the great migration north.

Marc Lottering, top SA comedian

I'm very fortunate to have some of South Africa's top comedians as clients...Marc Lottering is one of them. He is hilarious, which is crucial I expect - haha! He opened his new season of his hit show I Don't Work on Sundays, at the Baxter Theatre last night...the audience loved it. Never mind he was wearing a deadly satin suit in a magnificent shade of grey, I mean green :) he does touch on 50 Shades of Grey in the show btw. Follow him @MarcLottering & if in Cape Town, make a turn for a night of Funny, at the Baxter, nightly until 5 January 2013.

David Kramer, he with the pork pie hat & veldskoen fame. Coffee today at Cassis Paris (Gardens Centre); talking about Kat and the Kings, the hit show he created with the late Taliep Petersen & which he now directs. I'll be in Johannesburg this weekend for the Press night for Kat, on Sunday at Montecasino. Fun in the sun, compared to this drippy weather we're experiencing at this moment in Cape Town. Winter, begone!

Living Legend | Icon | Statesman

I'm re~posting this because I'm so proud of the moment it happened, 2 weeks ago at the Artscape Theatre....this was me: "Arch, this is the worst part of my job, having to ask you to please pose for a pic at that banner...would you mind?" to which he replied, "not at all" as he kindly & cheerfully obliged. I've met the Arch a few times, through my representing Dance for All (a Section 21 organization) & the South African satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys. A privilege as you can imagine...I have to pinch myself sometimes.
